Colmar rail-road electric shunters in South Korea

PARTAGER

Three new Colmar rail-road shunters delivered in South Korea to support railway logistics.

SRT has successfully commissioned a Colmar SL50E rail-road electric shunter at the underground railway depot of Songtan station, south of Seoul. Located 50 metres below sea level, this depot serves the Metropolitan Rapid Transit ‘Samsung-Dongtan’ line.

The Colmar SL50 is used by the Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) – the leading national railway operator – at the pit wheel lathe, where railway carriage wheels are refurbished, to ensure safety and operational efficiency. The trains typically have 8 wagons, with a total mass of approximately 400 tonnes when empty.

The SL50E is engineered to operate efficiently in tight spaces, urban areas, and underground environments. Its electric drive has a lower environmental impact than diesel-powered alternatives, and ensures high maneuverability—essential for railway yards and maintenance workshops.

Following the commissioning of the SL50E, SRT delivered two additional Colmar shunters, the SL16RC and SL32E, to Unjeong railway depot, north of Seoul, to be used on the GTX-A high-speed line. Authorization is currently awaited to proceed with testing and full commissioning.

With Colmar rail-road shunters, SRT redefines railway logistics, focusing on efficiency, sustainability and technological innovation. The wide range of models meets diverse operational needs.
